Adam Sandler is arguably one of Hollywood's most successful and controversial comedic actors. In many of his roles he strikes an impromptu balance between ignorance and temper with his gentle, slow-minded characters who generally possess an underlying short and explosive fuse. From his early days as a regular player on Saturday Night Live to starring roles in numerous films, with six to-date grossing over $100 million at the box office, including The Waterboy and Mr. Deeds, Sandler is a near-guaranteed success in any comedy film. Surprisingly, both Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison didn t fair even half as well as the aforementioned, but are credited to Adam Sandler's success. Both films, in conjunction with The Waterboy, are notably well-remembered because of Sandler's performances.

Adam Sandler was born September 9, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York, to Stan and Judy Sandler. He grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire with three older siblings and attended Manchester Central High School. He took the stage for the first time on a whim at a comedy club in Boston at the age of seventeen. While pursuing a Bachelor's degree in fine arts at New York University , he continued performing in comedy clubs. His first acting job was the semi-recurring role of Smitty on the television series The Cosby Show, which he landed his freshman year at NYU.

Sandler's television comedy career took off when Dennis Miller took note of Sandler performing at the Improv Theatre, a L.A. comedy club. Miller referred him to the producer of Saturday Night Live and he was taken on as a writer and occasional performer. Within a year, Sandler was a regular performer on SNL, and during his five-year run, though a few critics hated him, the viewers loved him.

He had a rocky start in his film career with roles in a few less-than-successful early films. But in 1995, he was cast in a role that suited him so well that his aggressive, youthful comedic style shone. Billy Madison was Sandler's first real box office hit and was soon followed by his first huge success, The Waterboy, which led to many other future hit films, and allowed him to achieve the status as one of the highest-paid comedy actors in Hollywood.

Adam Sandler combines his acting career with standup comedy, which he has performed on four

comedy albums. These albums, carrying a well-deserved warning for explicit lyrics, have shattered records and earned awards. He also writes and performs songs, some borderline offensive and raunchy, and is best known for The Chanukah Song. He has been married to model and actress Jacqueline Titone since 2003 and they have one child together. Sandler continues to enjoy his career as a successful comedy actor, producer, writer, and composer.
